faulty ECU pressure sensor?

Certainly the stock gauge is notorious for its inaccuracy and slow
response, however yours is showing more  "deviations" than usual. Has
anything happened to its response at maximum boost levels? Where have
you tapped off (to supply vac/press) for your VDO gauge? One
non-electrical component worth checking would be the condition (or
contents) of the little water-trap/filter in the manifold vac line
ahead of the the ECU.

Or, you could follow the advice of certain gurus of preventive
maintenance, and don't try to fix anything until it breaks--perhaps
somewhere along the road between East Jesus and Death Valley.
