Bernie,

Certainly price can be a factor in repair vs. replace.
It all depends on how much your time is worth.
If a new part will cost me $15 and the repair would take me an hour, I am
going for the new part.
Not to mention the failure rate of the repair vs. replace.

Your theory can sometimes be penny wise, pound foolish.
