Tie rod seperated from end.

Any one ever have this happen, was driving to a family dinner tonight. While
doing a U-turn, I lost my steering. Examined the front end and found the
right front tire turned all the way to the right, while the left was
straight. Traffic everywhere, had to kick the tire strait and limp off the
road.

To make a long story short, Called a buddy with some tools to help me out
and found that the threaded adjustment shaft between the end and the rod had
pulled out of the rod. After removing the rod from the rack I found the rod
and treaded shaft perfect, except for the end that screws into the shaft was
totally rusted with no threads in the rod, or on the shaft.

My car came from Calif., and has only seen one Minnesota winter. No rust on
any of the underside components.

I must assume that when the original owner had the UFO's swapped for G-60's
under warrantee in 1992, they must have cross threaded the shaft, which
allowed moisture to enter, and rust it out from the inside.

Any one ever hear of this.

I hope I can find parts in town tomorrow, I am supposed to drive to Aspen Co.
for a ski trip tomorrow. At least it failed here.

Any Comments?

Frustrated Pete
