A great thanks to all of you for you opinions on this controversial problem.
Its great to bounce ideas back and forth.
My Audi is now parked in my driveway, where it will wait for parts to arrive.
My solution was to sand blast the rust away, move the inner adjustment nut
against the center fixed nut to gain 3/8in more thread, pack threads with JB
quick weld. The inner rod tightened up very firm (cranked quite hard). Next
I drilled and pressed in an appropriate spring pin. Went up north to install
it. Did the double tape measure alignment and drove home with extreme
caution.
Its great to have a friend with a fully equipped shop it home, and you guys
on this list. This turned into a project with more time spent thinking and
worrying time than repair time.
Thanks to all that responded!!!
