Dead MAF?

If the fault code indicates MAF sensor, it probably is.  It's not unheard
of: mine went at about 100K, and the symptoms were much as you describe.  In
addition, my car had no power at all -- if I remember right, the ECU goes
into some kind of limp-home mode.

Don't know if parts vendors will let you do this in UK, but it's very easy
to put a new one in to see if it fixes the problem and return it if it
doesn't.  Or you could get a friend to lend you his ...
