Both ambient air temp sensors are for climate control only.

I believe scott was referring to the charge air temp sensor(top of
IM) and the coolant sensor(backside of the block, passenger side.)

If either fails, the ECU assumes worst case scenario and adjusts
timing/limits boost appropriately.
