split personality

After clearing the codes yesterday, the car does seem to run stronger.
I rechecked when I got home and there were no further codes.
O2 sensor is working fine as per SJM's page, so that's ruled out.
What I notice is that the car has an almost split personality. At times
it is as perky as it should be, right off the line, and then other times
it bogs down (I may even have felt surging/bucking) unless I feather the
throttle in carefully.
Is there anything that could cause this type of jekyl/hyde behavior? I
can think of a clogged intake (not yet checked) or a clogged cat. I'm
hoping it's something simpler.
In short, we're getting there (had it up to 110 yesterday and showed a
new Hyundai Tiburon V6 with a huge wing that an old Audi still moves)
but it's not quite right yet.
Will check disconnecting the MFTS to see what effect it may have today.
