Stock wheel surface damage???

If the pitting is bad, as it was on my 200 Avant when I bought it, and you
are hell bent on refinishing them yourself, you could see Eastwood Company
http://www.eastwoodco.com They have a kit for refinishing wheels. For about
$150 you can get all that is needed for 4 wheels, plus have enough left over
for valve covers and any other little bits of aluminum you want to bring to
a chrome like finish. It is a LOT of work to do the wheels. The clear coat I
put on the wheels after I was finished polishing didn't stand up too well,
so I stripped it off. Without any coating on the wheels, they require a lot
off attention to prevent pitting again.

While not as bad as the Notorious Speedline wheels, the stock BBS 200q20v
/v8 mesh wheels wiith polished lips need regular attention and waxing to
avoid the pitting you describe.  If it's as severe as it sounds, you may
indeed need to have them refinished.  I lucked out in that most of mine came
off with repeated treatments of bug and tar remover, so I'm guessing it was
mostly road tar.  Had a look at a friend's wheels over the weekend and they
were well beyond that.  Don't know if I could polish /buff them to a decent
state.
