Tire width

I'm running 255/40R17 Sumitomo HTR-ZII on 17x8 ET35 wheels.
I don't think there is enough clearance in the rear wheelwell to go
to 265 or 275 and once you go that wide, you really need 9" wide wheels,
which don't often come in 5x112 in the proper offset- you'll have to
usually
find some MBZ wheels and have them machined for the centerbore and
properly
radiused for hubcentric fit as well as being very careful on offset.

Subject: Tire width
What is the widest tire you can run on our cars? I've
seen a 91 w/ 235/40-18's on it. Is this the widest you
can run? I want to run 235/45-17's or 245/40-17's.
What offset and width should I get on the wheels.
