Rust specs

I noticed after washing and waxing the Q this Memorial day weekend that there
were three or four TINY specs of rust on  the lower half of the drivers side door.
How would I attempt to remove?? Because of the Vermont winter is is my car
doomed?? What is is the route to go to protect from Mother Nature.
