I repaired a non-lister's 20v Avant's broken plastic piece on the throttle linkage by
brazing a 10mm nut to the "arm" and then cutting a "slot" through one side of the
nut (with a hacksaw) so the cable can go through - the "ball" end of the cable
fits up against the brazed nut. I have not heard from the guy, so it still must be
holding.

A note of caution: "wrap" tin foil around the plastic on the throttle linkage
bushing, (or "coat" anti-seize on it and the other areas that can be contacted
by the torch) braze fast and on low heat, and have a spray bottle of water to
cool the bracket before it "heats" up too fast and starts melting the plastic...

Exactly what happened to my car. The plastic end of the cable then wedged
against something and held the throttle open. Not a big problem, I just
stepped on the brakes, turned off the key (but did not remove it!)and pushed
in the clutch. Then coasted to a stop. I suppose it would be a very bad idea
to take the key out of the ignition while the car is moving since the
steering lock would engage. Several outdoor rated zip ties around the end of
the cable and I was back on the road. I figure the ties are at least as
strong as the original plastic gizmo that broke

Ingo,

Though this sounds similar to my problem, when I open the hood, i can see
where the cable is detached from the throttle body, looks like the attaching
tab has broken. So the throttle position is now completely independant of
the gas pedal. I could try to send you a pic if you think that would help,
my descriptive skills are not the best.
