Mike S, I believe the jets are brass; I think what they're getting at is a
standard steel pin's diameter is larger than the jet opening, could damage
the jet, and thus the spray pattern.
Brett, good call on the toothpick & back flushing.  If you purchase the
special tool, let me know when I can borrow it.  ;-))
Mike M, I'll try a brass brush bristle - that would certainly poke out any
clog.

Now, anything on that 'intermittent wiper' anomaly?

I've used a wire from a brass wire grind wheel several times to clean out my
washer jets. I just unplug the hose and run it through from the hood side.
