Peter:
This is a guess.
The screaching is the alternator and the belts are slipping so that voltage
output is not as the electrical system needs. While belts in my 200 have done
this in the past, they slip at different rates when the engine is rev'ed
"wet" so the variation in sound vs RPM doesn't seem to always match.  My belt
was "fine" during dry weather but the new Conti belt only lasted one year
before the -lack of- tension threw the belt.
Tell us what you find.....................
