MTM chip

Brett,

I somehow agree with you on some points, but please
admit that chips can work very well with a stiffer WG
spring as well... In Germany and in Europe in general,
MTM are considered as one of the best I5 tuners and
it's not for nothing! I know nothing about APR or
Garrett but as only MTM/Abt/Hohenester/Lehmann are
available in Europe I talk about what I know. Then,
you always come up with the argument that the ECU
can't limit boost in case something goes wrong if you
use a stiffer WG spring, well, it can't take boost
back to 1.4 Bar as with the stock spring but the
springs that one of my friends is using only produce
1.6 Bar when the ECU shuts the WGFV, which is not very
dangerous IMHO... and my point on this is that if
you're not aware of the potential damage caused by
something going wrong in a 20vt engine and if you
don't have a boost gauge, then you simply don't need
any performance upgrades!
Next up, what do you know about the exact software
version MTM was using? Did you ever see the data
inside the chip to be sure it's a real MTM? Don't
forget the US cars have the coding plug that has more
than little to do with the US emmission norms and fuel
quality... It's possible that the version you're
talking about has never produced any kinds of problems
when used with the proper 98 RON gas and with the
coding plug removed (euro-setup)... Anyway, when
talking about socketed 3B chips, please let me tell
you that the 3B engines never ever got an ECU other
than the Bosch 0 261 200 451 and 453. I've opened
about 10 of them coming from different countries and
I've never seen any soldered chip in them, they all
have the sockets and the plastic retaining clip on
them. Now if you're talking about chips other than
EPROMS inside the ECU I agree that they are soldered
but they don't influence the engine tuning in any
matter!

And please don't tell me I'm pugnacious when I simply
tried to make you admit that there are some other
systems than those you are using and that they can
work as well as yours! If you want to talk about
actual ignition/injection parameters inside the chips,
I'm ready to answer your questions anyway!
