If "broken", then yes, but MFTS can also suffer from abnormal output
resistance.

Can remove, place in boiling water (tea kettle?),  and compare the
100C  resistance with value in Bentley chart.

Easier would be to compare your temp gauge against the temperature
reported by the coolant temp sensor, G60 (the G60 output is read on
CC panel and translated to temperature using Bentley table). Compare
this temperature with the temp gauge needle, and decide if it is
pointing to the "correct" spot (more or less). Of course before the
MFTS can be declared defective, there's the matter of whether or not
the temp gauge itself is properly calibrated. I believe there's a
procedure to do that (gauge) adjustment.
