Inexpensive Pentosin substitute?

Not quite- from bulk lube dealers you can get Mobil DTE-13M, which
meets all the specs.  It is something like $40/5 gallons.

It is NOT synthetic, however- and it doesn't have the low and high
temperature limits of synthetic pentosin; if you live in AZ or where
it's really nippy, or race/track your car, this stuff ain't for you;
exceed the temperature range, and the stuff probably wouldn't
adequately protect the pump, rack, etc.

I've been using it in the Big Baby for a while now, none the worse.
A few people on the main qlist use it; Cobram has been using it in
all 5 of his audis for years.

About the only problem I've had is in the winter, when temps dipped
down low, the steering was pretty stiff for a bit.  Once the car's
been running/driving for a few minutes, the fluid's fine- it seems to
warm up quick.  Pentosin pumps happily to insanely low temperatures.

I never got around to finding out more info about the synthetic
equivalent of the DTE-13M(there is one.)
