I said nothing implying that "newer (is or)isn't always better".  I related
my personal experiences re: 3 and 4 pin MFTS.  Apparently, you are just
restating what others have reported to the list, untainted by your personal
experince.  Could be that there is a new version of the active sensor
available now vs the original.  Inasmuch as the passive units are working
for me, I've not investigated deeper into current stock.

You of all people should know that newer isn't always better.
The 3-pin version design could have been done as a cost reduction and not a
reliability improvement.
