Actually, the alternator, which sits so that it gets splashed every time
you go through a puddle, is VERY prone to having its windings fail from
corrosion.  The wires can break and short out in this
circumstance.  BTDT.  A Bosch-certified rebuild shop can overhaul it for
less than a replacement costs usually.
