No Start, Red Turbo.. Found Problem

NO I havent pulled anything out except the starter to see the missing pin.
But what could cause the pin to break off? Something must have bounced up in there to cause it to break, no?
A friend welded something like it on but came right off, but ofcourse that would be the best, to weld something like a pin back on and pray it dont break.
