ECU Code light

Since the subject has come up, my 2 cts. forthwith.
My c/e light always did work, so one fine day about five years
ago, when I was fiddling around under the dash, I installed a
momentary contact button on the center console just below the
ignition switch. I then ran two wires over to the instrument plug
in the footwell and jumpered them into the connector.
Now, whenever I want to check the engine codes, I simply press
the button for four seconds, and read out the codes on the c/e
light.
