Absolutely no problem, using the stock passive pad wear detector, and it
works on both front and rear.  That being the pad backing plate which will
strike the unworn annular rings of the rotor inside and outside of the
actively worn pad contact area with an audable warning.  The more rotor wear
the earlier the warning.  I have long ago abandoned the active system on all
of my Audis, pads being cheaper also without the active sensor built in.
