Another thought, is likely that the code number,
(a four digit number beginning with one or zero)
is scribbled on the manual somewhere, of even
(as in my case, both places) right on the radio itself.

You get a number of tries before it locks up, and can reset
and get new chances by powering off for an extended 
period (overnight??)
