Richard,
Perhaps you're recalling the much-more simple and cheaper replacement
of the MFTS (temp sensor) which often fails--causing sudden drop in
max boost to about 1.4 bar. You'll generally get an occasional
overheat message and beep when the MFTS is in this failure-mode, but
that might only be seen erratically.
