Maybe a difference in market preference, east to west coast?
All of the 850s I've seen have automatics, same with the 740/940.
Only the very few 850Rs and T-5Rs are the exception.
I've seen 240s with manuals.

Really??? I have driven a TON of mid 80's to mid 90's Volvo sedans ( I
know it is rarer in the wagons) and just about everyone of them had a
manny tranny.
