K26 Turbo?

Well, if that will be entertainment car - maybe K26 is more fun :) But I
think that real results on the track will not improve. It can be that they
will be worse :( Because you will have (more) turbo lag. And with K26 you
will not have flat torque from 2k to 7k rpm, thus you will need to revise
gearbox ratios... ;)

Yes, they are compatible. Though there is no nipple for WG (I think)
pressure line on the K26 cold turbo side. But you can get the cold side
shell off the K24 and put on the K26. This can be done, but there can be
problems with turbo balancing.

Water cooling is not cooling so much as you think. Main job is done by oil
cooling, water is just for insurance.
