Fuel Sender Repairable?

A quick check has shown the problem with my dead gas gauge to be the
sender or wiring inside the tank. Unfortunately I just filled when it
erroneously showed empty a couple days back, and the tank is still too
full to take the sending unit out and investigate further. So I will
probably drive it this week and resume this repair next weekend.

My question is are there any repairable wires, etc on the sender in the
tank?

It has been several years since I looked at a sender unit (and Bentley
does not have any decent pics of this), and I forget if there are any
wires inside the tank to the float assm that might be repairable; or
should I get prepared with another sender unit?  (I get infinite
resistance when measuring at the connector plate.  So either a
loose/broken wire or the variable res is just busted...)
