I did not...I found that the rubber grommets/donuts would still work, using the same body mounts as the blocks.
I just figgered that it was just another audi parts succession or "improvement"
The cable removal/installation was the typical bear (forgot about the clips that hold the cable ends near the threaded shaft under the ebrake lever) - I ended up using a carpenter's cats paw to remove them since I did not have long reach needle nose pliers.
Chris Miller gave Mike Sylvester and Keith Bedard a hand in replacing similar ebrake cables on a 92/93 100 V6 quattro, which was almost as much fun.
