battery maintenance, a BS thread

If I recall, Bernie was not advocating putting a vented battery in and not
venting it.  He was advocating putting a nonvent battery in and letting it
do what it was intended to do.  (don't get me wrong, I do not have both feet
in the IIAB DFI camp, but here I think he is right on) I have followed this
debate for years across all the Q forums that require such a batt, UrQ,
5000, 200, having owned many of each model  People constantly bemoan the
fact that finding the right size, ventable battery at a reasonable price is
a pain.  I quietly mentioned years ago that I was running a nonvent battery,
with great CCA rating and fit/price and was impaled.  Well YMMV but I've had
1/2 dozen different apps, been running one in my UrQ for 10+ years with no
ill effects.  Yes it could explode, (so could a vented batt) but I used to
drive a Pinto and was rear ended by a school bus and am still here, I guess
I like living on the edge.  It is irony defined that many a  lister is
looking for the latest greatest suspension, tire, electrical part
upgrade/substitution but still insist on original batteries.  How do thoose
Optima folks ever hope to make money?

Putting a battery that is intended to vent to atmosphere in a closed in env=
ironment is a really dumb way to save money.  Champion batteries can be had=
for cheap money at Sam's outlets as well as batteries from Walmart, that c=
ome with the proper vent.
