Pete has itemized many very good tips. The only thing I might add is
with respect to visualizing the timing mark on the flywheel. I
strongly advise spending about $15 for a flexible inspection light
(Sears and Pep Boys has 'em, and Sears is the cheaper of the two,
IIRC). This very handy light will make the timing mark extremely easy
to see. It can be quite difficult to get good illumination down there
otherwise. This light has become an indispensible part of my toolkit.
