Replacing the ABS switch will probably cure that symptom, however
before doing that I decided to disassemble  it (you'll have to remove
it in any case) and thoroughly clean the switch contacts.  The
innards were covered with a gunk that had the appearance of a
lubricant, but it was evidently fouling the contacts.  The old switch
now works fine.
