(Ken:) when the dealer mechanic says it will cost $1000 to tear down the
motor to check for damage - it MAY be valid:
But not when the mechanic says he'll pay you $800 for your car that worked
yesterday and the $3000 worth of the 3B motor which it alone, sells for.
The crank photo where I used the wrench at 10:PM at night when it was 5
degrees out answers that question: Yes, the engine turns over okay and no
the distributor doesn't. - it was also my first ever engine diagnosis like
that - no training, just reading posts and learning on my own: no factory
trained tech here.

2 mechanics, first one tried to leverage me for $60 for parking it in their
lot,
cost of swapping out distributor, $330

Great story! Do you think it was dealer incompetence or outright fraud?
Obviously, the dealer knew there was a problem with the distributor because
of the location of the distributor cap wedged behind the power steering
reservoir.
Not counting the price you paid for the car, what was the total you spent on
this ordeal, i.e. $270 for new distributor, broken window in truck, rental
of trailer, 2 mechanics, cost of swapping out distributor, and cost of
towing.

Ken
