Stiff clutch pedal = failing clutch?

Sorry for the hearsay evidence, Bernie. I don't KNOW. When I had a clutch
replaced years ago, I was informed that the reason the new one felt so easy
to push was because the springs in the old one had deteriorated. Since
then, I've assumed that part of the function of the springy bits in a
clutch assembly was to hold the parts together and another part of their
function was to assist in separating the parts.
