all-metal radiator for around $165, from Modine and others. It will
need two 1" (25mm) diameter nipples soldered into the side tank
opposite the larger nipples, which any radiator shop will do in 10
minutes. It will then accommodate the auxiliary radiator. (You can
also have a smaller nipple soldered into the bottom of the tank at the
passenger side end, to which you attach a small hose and valve, so you
can drain the entire cooling system at will without spraying
antifreeze all over the engine room.)

This is a permanent fix to two problems. The first is just general age
and heat. The second is what happens when the water pump fails, and
the cooling system looses its water. It appears that the thermal shock
from the water loss cracks the upper nipple. Twice I had pumps fail
and both times the upper nipple cracked. The peace of mind that comes
with this all-metal fix is an added bonus.

BTW, I have always run a 50/50 mix of distilled water and antifreeze
in my cars and have never had a single radiator problem in 30 years,
except this plastic radiator nonsense......
