Failed emissions due to timing? Can it be?

I'll repeat (again) my advice to all timing-belt DIYers: invest about
15-20 bucks in a high-intensity flexible-shaft inspection light.
Sears sells one; and the one I have (from Pep Boys) is called
"Sidewinder". It has a bare, focused mini-bulb at the tip of a 12"
flexible extension (making the total length, including the battery
grip, about 18"). With this tool you can easily place a tightly
focused source of light right _inside_ the flywheel opening. Then you
will find that the flywheel marks are anything but "almost
invisible"--they become very easy to see. A regular flashlight or
worklight is not nearly as effective as it tends to cast shadows
and/or reflect stray light back into your eyes. Once I started using
this device I wondered how I ever did without it.
