Ahh yes, but if you were to run an oil flush through your system before 
changing the oil (and not the filter), wouldn't this be akin to taking a 
shower *in* your underwear?

Many new cars have changed the oil change interval to 7500 miles. I know 
in our Accord it was 7500 miles, but the manual also listed conditions 
where that service interval should be lowered. For instance, stop and go 
driving, driving in cold climates, driving in warm climates, driving in 
dust/desert, driving in rain, continuous high-speed driving.....driving 
on dirt, driving on pavement....you get the point. I don't remember the 
specifics, but it seemed that *most* types of driving were considered 
'severe' and required more frequent oil change intervals.

I'm pretty sure Pete was meaning 'they' as Audi. By not changing your 
oil very frequently, you could be back to get a new car shortly after 
your warranty expires. It's just another tactic in case the timing belt 
braking just after warranty (but before recommended service interval) 
one doesn't work.
