I wonder how much of that had to do with your alignment and the particular
set of tires that you were running.

I've been running 17" wheels and tires on my 200 for quite some time now and
I have not had any tramlining issues or any other problems, although my snows
are the rather heavy S4tt Avus, so these seriously degrade ride quality- I can feel
the difference if the wheel weights differ a lot.
