The interval being immediately, when the older car is new to you.  If both
the caliper is cleaned out and the guide pins lubed at this time, both
should last indefinitely with biennial (a great new word!) fluid changes.
I'm assuming that you have not done so.

Two pins and a screw driver, or 3 screw drivers.  If you can't screw it in
with very little torque, my above assumption is most probably correct.
