IMO, the best way to check if your gauge is accurate, and not have to rely on 
a bunch of other components working correctly, is to test it in boiling 
water.  Remove the sender, boil water, and drop the sender in.  Since the boiling 
point of water is known (a tad lower up here at altitude), you will be able to 
determine if the gauge is reading correctly.
