hitch mounting question

The hitch on my 5ktq has the flat support bar and boltheads inside the
trunk on either side of the frame rail. You have to pull up the covering
for the flap that folds over the little well on each side of the trunk to
see the outer boltheads.

I think the U bolts are slid up inside the frame rail and the threaded ends
hang down so that the nuts hold the back of the hitch support against the
frame there. So you mark your holes and drill out the frame and then put
one U bolt leg into one hole and work it toward the other hole so it can
drop down. I think that's why they call for holes a little larger than the
U bolts themselves--to give you a bit of wiggle room for sliding the U
bolts into place.
