Yes, it is a home-made tool following the Scheley concept. Of course the
Scheley cost $300 to buy and $30 to rent, whereas I own my puller for about
$30.

Yes, I rode with a loud bearing or two for what seemed like a very long
time before replacing them.

You sometimes have to wait a while until things get loud enough to properly
diagnose : -)

Plus, if you wait long enough you can do more than one in a short time span
so you can refine your method as you go.

The bearings I have replaced all were at 150,000 to 200,000 miles.
