Most unlikely!  More likely, your hired wrench stressed it in gaining access
to whatever else he thought was worng in whatever other symptom he was
chasing.  Hate to admit that I've been running without a good aux thermostat
for years now.

Hook up the electrical side also, it should work just fine.
