I have no idea why it happens--but that's been a common complaint
since having the recall modification done. The PO of my car
complained about that symptom very soon after the recall was done.
His dealer reset the airbag module, but couldn't explain why the
light had come on. By the time I bought the car, the light was on
again--although it would always go out after 2-3 minutes.
Others--like you--have the "always on" symptom. A friend did the
reset for me (with his VAG-COM tool) a few months ago, and it's been
OK ever since. However I've not had the battery disconnected since
then. Someone will correct me if it's known to be not related to loss
of battery power, but that's my understanding. You can have this done
at the dealer or a good shop--I imagine they'd charge no more than 20
minutes labor (but who knows what ridiculous charge they might feel
is justified).
