I'm pretty sure that on most of the midwest/northeast 200q20v's, the
exhausts are going; I've got holes in both muffler units.
However- the Midas exhaust(s) on the old 5000 each lasted all but a
few years. Within a week, they all lasted exactly the same amount of
time before failing- much to the chagrin of the Burlington Midas
shop. The last time we had it replaced, the manager asked if we
wanted to schedule an appointment for "next time".
So, I suppose that even at $800, the stock system really isn't that
bad a deal- and Chris Miller pointed out that it is virtually the
same system as used on the 250hp NA V8q, so it's not exactly poorly
designed from a performance standpoint, and seems to handle the few
additional ponies a chip gets you over the V8.
I love the sound of the Stebro on the NA 20v; Peter Schulz has one on
his Coupe, and that thing sounds meaner 'n hell coming down the front
straight at NHIS...but I want something for the 99.9% percent of the
time I'm in the car.
