I would also suspect a CV.  On mine, it was the front passengers that let
go.  With the engine running, and in gear, I could see the half shaft just
spinning, but no go.

When my passewnger side let go, there was a lot of grinding noises and 
no-go. Cheapest way to fix it was to order a new 1/2 shaft. It was 1/2 the 
price of just the CV joint.
