I have read the same thing in the manual. Remember though that with
synthetic oils, it's the second number that indicates the base stock. Ie, a
10W-30 uses a 30W as the base stock. This, to my understanding is the exact
opposite of non-synthetics where a 10W-30 would use a 10W base stock. So to
properly heed the warning on page 97, one would need to consider the type of
oil used as well as the grade, IMO.

The owners manual lists (for multigrade oil) in farenheit:
5W-20: 17 and below
5W-30: 17 and below
10W-30: 0 to 60
10W-40: 0 to 60
15W-40: 5 and above
15W-50: 5 and above
20W-40: 15 and above
20W-50: 15 and above
Boldprint on p. 97 reads "When using 5- or 10-weight oil, avoid high speed
long distance driving if outside temp rises above the indicated limits".
For 5-weight, that limit is 15 degrees farenheit
for 10-weight, that limit is 60 degrees farenheit

I don't think anything near 50w oil is recommended for our cars.
