Sean:  Liosters have mentioned that a way to stop a metal tear is to drill a 
round hole at the end.  Aircraft method I think, for alumnium.
Audi seems to have anticipated a tear there (in the webbing) and pre drilled 
a hole to stop it from going all the way.
Yours is one of the best photos I've seen.
