Temp gauge inop

Got car, temp gauge indicated no thermostat or thermostat stuck open.
Replaced thermostat, o-ring and u-shaped coolant hose, all was well- temp gauge working, showing thermostat operational.
Couple weeks later, temp gauge is dead...has been for months.
Replaced MFTS (I think- from dealer, part # 034 919 369 c; 3-pin; $69).
Temp gauge still inoperable.
Any other sending units or factors to consider before concluding the temp gauge itself is dead?
