windshield wiper motor woes

Sounds more like a linkage problem to me.  If the linkage is loose, it most
likely has a tendency to bind as well.  I'd remove the wiper arms, then the
cover and run the wipers to see if there is indeed any binding before
replacing the motor.  Also, make sure all mounting bolts are secure.
