Ignoring the cult value of the S6, and that it will better
hold its value, the S6 is about twice as old the A6. Things
like rubber suspension bits are at their end-of-life, so
even on a well-maintained car, the maintenance will be more
expensive. Since you are looking for a "family" car, I'd
go with the newer A6 Avant (and look for an S6 sedan for a
second car).
