How many miles? If more than 100k since the hose was last changed,
I'm amazed the hose is still intact and not a soggy, collapsed mess...

Uh- rich exhaust, or gas? Double check all the hoses around the
FPR. The short one from the regulator to the fuel rail DOES fail!(BTDT)

Now might be a great time to replace the bearings in the fan motor.
McMaster sells lovely double-sealed bearings that are more than
suitable for the job (at least, I think it is "double sealed" that
you want- I forget.) $20-30 gets you a pair of more-than-high-enough-
grade bearings that'll handle anything the motor can generate and
more :-)
